JOB PURPOSE

Oversee the design, advocating, and promoting of priority sports, enhancing the region's socio-cultural fabric and economic impact through sports, and ensuring the development and execution of a strategic portfolio of priority sports that aligns with cultural and tourism goals.

Functional Responsibilities
  • Develop and define a strategic portfolio of priority sports, focusing on heritage and modern sports, to enhance regional development and tourism. 
  • Oversee the implementation of plans for prioritized sports, ensuring strategies for infrastructure development, partnerships, coaching programs, talent identification, and community engagement are effectively executed. 
  • Ensure comprehensive planning and execution of all priority sports programs, events, and facilities, including those related to heritage sports, to reach residents and visitors through a network of well-maintained communication platforms. 
  • Oversee budgets and financial resources to ensure efficient allocation towards the development and promotion of priority sports, maximizing return on investment.
  • Lead and inspire a team dedicated to the strategic and operational aspects of priority sports development, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Regularly review and assess the effectiveness of sports programs and initiatives, making adjustments as necessary to meet strategic objectives and improve outcomes.
  • Act as a spokesperson for priority sports initiatives, enhancing public and stakeholder awareness and support through active engagement and communication.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with national and international sporting bodies, leveraging expertise, knowledge transfer, and event hosting opportunities to propel the growth of all priority sports, including heritage sports.

Managerial Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the sector’s short- and long-term strategy from the Department's perspective in line with overall vision and mission. 
  • Develop the Department's strategy, objectives, KPIs annual operational plans and ensure plan execution is meeting the targets. 
  • Prepare and submit the Department's annual budget for approval taking all planned activities and necessary investments into consideration by monitoring the financial performance. 
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, implementation and adherence of the department policies and procedures as well as the overall performance of the department and ensure KPI’s are well developed, cascaded, communicated, and monitored. 
  • Ensure effective staffing, professional development, and deployment of staff of the sector in consultation with the Sector Executive 
  • Direct the Department's connection to its customers, whether internal or external, to ensure customer needs are met effectively.
Academic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management. Business Administration, Public Relations, or a related field. (Masters Degree preferred)

Work Experience
  • 12 years of relevant experience with 6 years in a managerial role

Other Requirements
  • Written and Oral proficiency in Arabic & English languages. 
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Time management and organization skills. 
  • Familiarity with standards, regulations, best practices, and performance standards. 
  • Maintains a high standard of professionalism, presentation, personal integrity, and customer support.
